International Women's Day is Friday, March 8. It is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. We have spoken with several women we'd like to celebrate for their fitness achievements and in honor of International Women's Day. The second World Rowing Indoor Championships took place on Sunday, February 24, in the sunny climes of Long Beach, California. There was strong international flavor throughout the entire day. For the first time, the biggest international team came from Mexico, with 44 athletes competing. There were also large teams from France, Great Britain and Germany, but athletes came from far afield, with 35 separate countries represented, including competitors from Japan, South Korea, Egypt and Chile. Finding time to exercise can feel more difficult than the workout itself. Here at Concept2, our employees have found many ways to schedule fitness into their busy work days.
Even though Concept2 gives employees flexible hours and scheduling, we still need to juggle exercise between taking phone calls, building oars, shipping orders, having meetings, and other tasks and responsibilities. While some of our staff work behind desks, many others are on their feet in our warehouse, shipping and production areas. Even with a workout room easily available, it can still be tough to find time.
How does our staff make it happen? A few Concept2 employees share their tricks. Continue Reading ›

Heart rate training is one way to monitor progress and fitness. These days, there are a growing number of fitness devices to help you measure heart rate: chest straps, watches, even inserts you can put in your shorts! You should find the device that works best for you.
Wrist-based heart rate monitors are increasingly popular because they are comfortable, convenient, and can provide continuous heart rate monitoring from exercise to everyday activities. However, we find that they often struggle with accuracy during rowing or skiing due to the tendons flexing while exercising. We recommend a chest belt if you’re looking for better accuracy. If I were to sum myself up as an athlete I would simply say, “I like fitness.” I played traditional high school sports, I was once a runner, had a brief stint with rock climbing, I attend a CrossFit gym, and in the summer you won't catch me anywhere but on mountain bike trails or pushing watts pedaling up Vermont hills. This being said, I don’t consider myself a true "cyclist". So why do I love the BikeErg so much? Continue Reading ›
Editor's note: Terry Smythe was a long-time friend of Concept2 and champion of indoor rowing. Terry passed away on November 27, 2018, after a fierce battle with mucosal melanoma. We remember her with fondness and want to share her rowing tricks of the trade.
Ah, the Concept2 Challenges. Those monthly team and individual competitions that help fans of flywheel fitness stay consistent on their rowing machine, SkiErg or BikeErg. In my 35+ years of experience as an indoor rowing instructor and on-water college coach, I can tell you the Challenges have been the hook to introduce new people to the Zen of the flywheel, and also offer ongoing goals that help keep my rowers fit.
We recruited Peanut to help us with oar repair, we then gave Peanut a sticker for the help. Whether you see us at Regattas or you’re just placing an order were always happy to give you some stickers to rep your favorite brand, sport or just because they’re free! #Concept2
